Brainspotting (BSP)

Brainspotting is a precise neurobiological tool that enables us to pinpoint, process and release memories of distressing experiences that often remain beyond the reach of our consciousness.

Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach that leverages precise eye positioning, somatic awareness, focused mindfulness, and the therapist’s deep attunement to process and release traumatic memories. A psycho-physiological balance is restored through the Brainspotting process and the brain’s innate capacity for self-healing.

BSP was developed from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing), which was created to support US soldiers returning with PTSD from the Vietnam War. In the way that a smell can transport us to memories, our eyes are often the key to locating trauma stored away in the deeper levels of our brain - the sub-cortex.

It's been discovered that where we look affects how we feel, and finding the best place to hold clien's gaze during the processing helps healing. When a ‘brainspot’ is activated, the deep brain signals that we have identified a neural network linked to an unprocessed trauma. Brainspotting can free your imagination from constraints and constructs built over time, bringing your unique perspective.
Who Can Benefit?

Trauma does not need to be a result of a single event - it can be whatever leaves you feeling frightened, under threat, humiliated, rejected, abandoned, unsafe, unsupported, trapped, ashamed, lost, powerless or shut down.
The body tirelessly maintains the system’s homeostasis. Traumatic experiences weaken the nervous system’s flexibility and the body’s ability to self-regulate. Through targeted and direct work on the client’s active nervous system and physiology, Brainspotting enables precise and comprehensive trauma processing, restoring lost homeostasis to the system. As a result of this process, clients experience both rapid relief and profound insight. BSP is equally effective for helping with blocks or issues arising in your life or coping with loss and bereavement; it can free your imagination from constraints and constructs built over time, bringing your unique perspective.

Brainspotting can also be applied to broader personal development, overcoming internal barriers to achieving goals or self-fulfilment. It enhances the potential, creativity, and performance of artists, athletes, leaders, and public speakers.
